Instead of them concentrating on the patient's needs, the doctors and nurses or MA's are busy putting all that information in the computer. The main disadvantage to me, is it takes too much time away from the patient. I agree that the EHR systems has its advantages, but also its disadvantages. We need an open source, internet based system that can connect all physicians, pharmacies, labs, and hospitals. I bought Vitera Intergy EHR and they have been horrible! They cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars, is too complicated to use, are always gauging me for more services, and have poor support. However, the present system with EHR for profit companies running it is too expensive and does not connect physicians and hospitals. I agree that eventually the medical field needs electronic connectivity. It is crazy to me that hospitals and HCF do not get these doctors the software that will help them increase revenue, improve morale and give them more face to face time with their patients. The thing is, doctors can dictate and have their notes transcribed and dropped into their EMR and they don't have to do the typing and clicking. I read these comments and I feel for these doctors - seeing fewer patients, clicking and typing into EMR's, distracted when they are with their patients.
